Leadership matters! But to describe leadership, and especially good and transformative leadership, is notoriously difficult. Anyone can find words to warn against wrong and destructive leadership, but it is more challenging to train and empower leaders who lead in transformative love. Alexander Negrov’s timely and inspiring text achieves this difficult task. Not only does this well-written text clearly define Christ-centered leadership in a thoroughly robust Biblical and theological way, but it also maps out a way forward to train the next generation of leaders who could bring godly transformation to their world. I expect this book to become a standard text for those who seek to embody transformative leadership.

– Dr. Corné J. Bekker, Professor and Dean, School of Divinity, Regent University

Upon initially starting this book, my reaction was tinged with skepticism: “Oh, not another book on leadership!” Yet this skepticism was quickly dispelled as the unique nature of the text revealed itself. This book delves into an intricate tapestry of spiritual, ethical, and practical leadership dimensions, enriched with theological insight, social research, and an innovative mix of personal and collective leadership strategies. Dr. Negrov intersperses thought-provoking questions throughout, enhancing the book’s relevance and applicability for young adults who seek to forge their path in leadership. Life, as we know it, is a journey (hodos), and it is often said that the value of a journey lies not only in its end but also in those who accompany us along the way. In the realm of leadership, this book stands out as a sage companion for such a journey.

– Dr. Riad Kassis, International Director, Langham Partnership International, Lebanon

Hodos Leadership is an excellent guide and resource for Christians who wish to be formed as leaders. Alexander Negrov serves as an instructor and coach towards the reader’s development in spiritual, ethical, and effective leadership. In each chapter, he provides stories, research, teaching, and most importantly, reflective questions for the reader to consider and assess themselves. Academically rich, Hodos Leadership taken a section at a time for reflection will be life changing.

– Dr. Keith Webb, Founder and President, Creative Results Management

As a pastor and seminary president, I have been teaching leadership courses for years. I have read numerous books on leadership and regret it is only now that I have read this book. Once you begin reading Dr. Negrov’s book, you won’t want to put it down. It is not just another book on leadership in the conventional sense. Instead, it is a book that goes far beyond mere knowledge transmission. In Hodos Leadership, Dr. Negrov shares his extensive knowledge and invaluable experience. The greatest strength, and simultaneously the most significant contribution of this book, lies in its ability to pose the right questions about leadership. Those who engage seriously with these questions will be able to develop their own concepts of leadership. The theological depth, practical insights, personal experiences of the author, and helpful explanations are a treasure trove I would not want to do without. “Hodos” translates to “path,” and Dr. Negrov wants the reader to understand leadership as a life path. Every chapter and every topic is conceived from this fundamental idea. I am convinced that this book will become a standard work and will be required reading at theological seminaries and universities in the field of leadership around the world.

– Dr. Jack Barentsen, Professor, Evangelische Theologische Faculteit and Institute of Leadership and Social Ethics, Leuven, Belgium

When I pick up a book, my first question is whether the author has the knowledge and experience to credibly address the subject. Any book on leadership by Dr. Alexander Negrov immediately has my attention because of his many years of outstanding leadership, his extensive knowledge, and his personal integrity. But Negrov is not just another clever and knowledgeable leader. He is a wise leader. This wisdom makes it possible for him to address the topic of ethical leadership with keen insight and sound counsel. Sadly, many churches, businesses, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations today suffer from unethical and toxic leadership. I highly recommend Hodos Leadership for younger leaders who long to lead like Jesus leads.

– Dr. Daryl McCarthy, CEO, The Leadership Anvil

Much has been written about leadership in the past century, yet there is surprisingly little from non-western authors. Considering his background and expertise, Dr. Negrov’s contribution to the global debate is a very welcome addition. Hodos Leadership marvelously applies timeless Biblical principles to the realities and challenges of leadership throughout the world. I am particularly impressed by Dr. Negrov’s insight into the theology of work, considering the Eastern European entrenched legacy of a sacred – secular divide. I highly recommend Hodos Leadership! I am convinced that this book will contribute to a better understanding of the biblical perspective on work and the invaluable contributions Christians can make through their professions.

Hodos Leadership turned out to be exactly the resource I was looking for. Thanks to Dr. Negrov, I am enriched by the concept of “hodos leadership,” which has not only fascinated me, but it has also forced me to rethink my own approach to leadership. Hodos Leadership prudently interrelates spirituality, ethics, and effectiveness—a fine achievement highly relevant to me as a Christian leader. I highly recommend this book to all—educators, students, researchers, practitioners, leaders, team members—who want to become better leaders. Hodos Leadership will be a reliable guide in your journey of leadership and personal growth.

It deserves a broad audience and would make an excellent resource for churches, Christian-led organizations and businesses, and non-profits, looking to strengthen their Christian leadership training. and institutions as well as for training Christian leaders in civil society and business.

– Øivind Augland, Founder and President, M4 and Exponential Europe, Kristiansand, Agder, Norway

A lack of morally courageous leadership is one of the defining issues of our day. We desperately need it in politics, in economics, and in society as a whole. Morally courageous leadership is what separates those willing to take on responsibility from those desiring nothing but power for personal gain. The former are those who combine genuine ability with humility in a lifelong seeking for wisdom; the latter are those who combine genuine ability with a sense of self-importance in aspiring to power and influence. Morally courageous leadership requires a very solid foundation – and for me that foundation must be built on deep spiritual roots. In Hodos Leadership, Alexander Negrov leads his readers on a journey, posing a series of provocative questions as he explores many different aspects of leadership. And in doing so, he challenges the readers to think through their understanding not only of leadership in general but also of Christian leadership in particular. Such a task is not easy. But Dr. Negrov’s exploration of biblical leadership and spirituality, and the distinction to be made between them and a secular understanding of leadership, are fundamental to developing sound ethical leadership. This book demands attention, offers practical advice, and should be approached with honesty and humility.
